Fear is a funny thing, it can make us do things we don’t want to do, it makes us not do things we know we should do. Fear can have such a strong grip on our minds that it can skew our view of something so deeply that we will not see truth.
Fear is something the enemy loves to use in a believer’s life, it can cause a believer to have spiritual amnesia, and cause us to forget what God has done and therefore not focus on what HE can do. We unplug ourselves from the history of God, the truth that before you or I were ever born Christ showed up and already took the victory lap. HE has already won our battles!
Now, before you go thinking I have this truth down and walk in this victory confidently let me reassure you I don’t. In fact, the reason I am writing on this subject is to remind myself of the truth of God’s word, and the truth that He is fighting for me regularly.
Our pastor is teaching a series right now in Hebrews, and on Sunday morning he was talking about angels, and specifically our guardian angels. I have always known we have a guardian angel and that they are around us, but I never realized there are multiple angels around us and they don’t have their eyes on us but they have their eyes on Jesus because He has his eye on us. Jesus is literally telling our angels what to do to help us. Think about that we are seen by Jesus!
Surely God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid. The Lord, the Lord himself, is my strength and my defense he has become my salvation. Isaiah 12:2 What a reassurance that God is my salvation. He knew I couldn’t do that so, He did it for me.
Fear is something that can captivate our thoughts. What do you think on? What we think on is crucial because what we cling to influences our worldview, it influences how we respond and what we think about ourselves and those around us.
Choosing to focus on God’s word, His blessings, and His promises, you start to recognize God’s goodness during uncertain times. Trusting that God will redeem your present discomfort will equip you to walk forward in faith and keep on fighting.
Isaiah 12:2 reminds us that we belong to a God that is faithful to keep His promises to us. This God fights for us and rescues us, so when we belong to God, we have nothing to fear. If I could just remember this, and just cling to Him and wait on Him to act. However, so often I want to take matters in my own hands and try to fight the battle myself.
May I implore you today to reflect on God’s promises and let that transform the way you think. Perhaps we could work on this together.
Just some of the reminders of God’s promises:
• He will sustain you (Psalms 55:22)
• God’s peace will guard your heart (Philippians 4:7)
• God delights over you with singing (Zephaniah 3:17)
• God will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go. (Psalms 32:8)
• God is your refuge and strength your help in times of need. (Psalms 46:1)
• In all things, you are more than conquerors because God loves you. (Romans 8:37)
• God will never leave you or forsake you (Deuteronomy 31:6)
• God’s perfect love casts out all your fear. (1John4:18)
• Nothing can separate you from God’s love. (Romans 8:38-39)
• God’s not done with you. (Philippians 1:6)
Together, let’s focus on these promises and let this take up the space in our mind. These thoughts not only encourage us, but keep us focused on truth.
