Fresh Starts

Well, here we are at the start of a new year, it is hard to believe. I don’t know about you, but I do enjoy fresh starts, a clean slate the opportunity to begin new. With Christ leading our life we have opportunity to have fresh starts daily, and for that I am grateful. I am thankful that He allows me a new beginning every day. His mercies are new each morning!

I love Jesus so much! I am so thankful that He loves me, cares about me, and loves to spend time with me. I want to know Him more intimately this year so that His guidance becomes more evident in my life. There isn’t one correct way to do this, but there are steps that can be taken to help.

I can seek God through prayer, spending time talking to God. There is no doubt that I like to talk, and sometimes I am guilty of talking too much and not listening enough. I must admit listening is not something I am very good at doing.

When we have friend that is always talking, and not listening to us, it can be exhausting. Friendships seem to grow when two people can talk and learn about each other, their likes and dislikes, etc.

The more time the friends spend together the more they get to know each other and the better they understand each other.

As we spend time with God getting to know His will for our lives will never contradict what is written in Scripture. As we spend time with God in prayer and familiarize ourselves with His word. The more our desires will begin to reflect God’s will and when this happens, we can confidently ask God anything.

Listen to the Holy Spirit. Listening for the Holy Spirit often requires silencing the noise around you. When you get rid of distractions, and stop fixating on fear, you start to notice God’s peaceful presence in your present circumstances. So, as you pray and search the scriptures, ask the Holy Spirit to guide you and allow God to silence any distractions.

Look for confirmation from wise people, consider asking people who are farther along in their faith journey to be your wise counsel. Ask them to pray with you about God’s will for your life.

We don’t always have to get it right, but the more we try to understand His will, the easier it becomes. I don’t know about you but, I want to spend more time in God’s word and prayer this year to better understand His will. I want my relationship with Christ to be stronger and more evident to others this year. Will you join me on this journey?
