Well, here we are again, once again we flip the calendar to a new month. Can’t even believe that we are in December, wow where has the year gone? Now, here I find myself in the busy of the season. It’s so easy to get sucked into all the “things” during this month, the hustle and bustle, and all the magic of the season.
Not that there is anything wrong with the things that go with the season of Christmas, I will be the first to admit I enjoy the season, I really enjoy decorating my house. I love the cozy of the season, the lights on the tree, a fire in the fireplace, Christmas music, gathering with family and friends, going to Christmas programs, and looking at Christmas lights just to name a few.
Through all the festive of the season though, I want to stay mindful of the reason we celebrate the season; however, If I am being honest, I can get distracted and not quiet myself enough through this season to really remain focused on Jesus. It is a discipline I must practice, and again being honest, I don’t do it well, that is one reason why I love the Advent season.
The word “advent” means arrival. So, this advent season may I encourage you to reflect on the biblical meanings of hope, peace, joy, and love to discover how these virtues have arrived in the world through Jesus.
Romans 15:13 (NIV)
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Romans 15:13 (NLT)
I pray the God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.
