Galatians 5:1 It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.
According to Dictionary.com, “freedom” is defined as:
- the state of being free or at liberty rather than in confinement or under physical restraint;
- exemption from external control, interference, regulation, etc.
- the power to determine action without restraint.
- political or national independence.
- personal liberty, as opposed to bondage or slavery; The formerly enslaved seamstress bought her freedom and later became Mary Todd Lincoln’s dressmaker and stylist.
- exemption from the presence of anything specified (usually followed by from): freedom from fear.
A noun is a person, place, thing, or idea. So, freedom is a noun that is a state of being free, as opposed to being in confinement or under physical restraint; exempt from external control.
Christ came so that we might have freedom, it’s that simple. He desires for us to walk in freedom, to walk with our shoulders up, our head pointed straight ahead, walking in the confidence of who He created us to be. So, why is it that we often walk like we have a huge load on our shoulders, weighed down, unable to move? I can only speak for myself, but I have a hard time accepting and walking in the truth of grace.
I don’t know why I do, but I decide, I really am going to accept the grace that Christ has for me, and I am going to walk boldly and confidently in it this time. I am not going to go back to that place of bondage and feeling like I am not good enough. I am not going to be burdened by that yoke of slavery again.
Before I realize it, in just a few days, maybe even hours, once again I find myself trying to be justified by the law, instead of the grace and freedom to which Galatians refers. I have walked right out of those “shoes of grace” and walk right back into alienating Christ and trying to do things on my own. Trying to earn my love and way to Christ.
Will you join me today, and walk in the truth and the state of being free. True freedom that is only achieved as we walk daily with Christ. It is a journey of freedom, learning and growing daily. Come grow with me.
