Make Room

Recently I was driving, listening to worship music a friend had sent me, and included in that list of music was the song Make Room by Community Music. I found myself singing the lyrics, as it’s one of my top favorites. However, as I began to sing in my truck (alone, I might add, cause ain’t no one going to be blessed by my singing 🙂 ), I suddenly, begin to listen to these lyrics and I heard the Spirit of God whisper to me quietly, but lovingly, “really, Regenia?” I can’t tell you the number of times I have listened to that song, worshipped to that song, but NEVER has it hit me like it did the other day.

For those of you who may not know the lyrics of the song, you will find them at the end of this blog post. You see, the chorus of this song read, And I will make room for You to do whatever You want to… this is where I became convicted and heard God say, “is that true, Regenia?” If i’m being honest with myself and with God, no, it’s not. I want it to be, but it’s not. For so long I have been so busy trying to make things like I think they should be, or trying to work at creating the image that I wanted portrayed to the person(s) I was around at the time. I have been obsessed with trying to make the rooms of my heart be what I thought they should be or what I thought I deserved , that I am pretty sure I haven’t made room for Him to do what He wanted to do.

I usually carry a big bag as my purse, and most often have it chucked full of things. However, the older I have gotten, I have tried to simplify my life more, including my purse. Our hearts aren’t any different than any other space, there is only so much room, and we choose to fill that space with what we deem to be important, and it will bleed into other areas of our life. Any one of us know that if we have a storage container and we fill it too full, some stuff that is on top is either going to fall off or get smashed. As a result, we make sure the most valuable things are in there, and choose to do something else with the rest. Sometimes, that means prioritizing and getting rid of some things.

That’s what my heart feels like right now, and if you were honest with yourself, you would find the same to be true. Our hearts are made to have connection with Christ and to allow Him to fill our heart with His desires and His plans for our life, but for us to truly make room for Him to do whatever He wants to do, we have to clear our heart of the clutter. That clutter can consist of trying to make things happen the way we want or think they should, the clutter of busying ourselves with things that are not His plan. To make room in our hearts we truly need to surrender and release, clear the space, fill it with His Word, His thoughts, His ways, His plans for us. So much easier said than done, but so effective and fulfilling as this discipline is practiced. I want to release and surrender, so I can make room for Him to do whatever He wants to do, don’t you?

Make Room (Live) Lyrics
[Verse 1]
Here is where I lay it down
Every burden, every crown
This is my surrender
This is my surrender
Here is where I lay it down
Every lie and every doubt
This is my surrender
[Chorus]
And I will make room for You
To do whatever You want to
To do whatever You want to
And I will make room for You
To do whatever You want to
To do whatever You want to, oh
[Verse 1]
Here is where I lay it down
Every burden, every crown
This is my surrender
This is my surrender
Here is where I lay it down
Every lie and every doubt
This is my surrender
[Chorus]
And I will make room for You
To do whatever You want to
To do whatever You want to, Jesus
And I will make room for You, for You
To do whatever You want to
To do whatever You want to
Oh I will make room for You, Jesus
To do whatever You want to
To do whatever You want to
Oh I will make room for You
To do whatever You want to
To do whatever You want to, Jesus
[Spontaneous]
Have Your way, have Your way, Jesus, oh
We surrender all, we surrender all, Jesus
Have Your way, Jesus, have Your way, Jesus

Break down the walls of all my religion

Your way is better
Oh Your way is better
Shake up the ground of all my tradition
Break down the walls of all my religion

Oh Your way is better
Shake up the ground of all my tradition
Break down the walls of all my religion
Your way is better, Jesus
Your way is better
Shake up the ground of all my tradition
Break down the walls of all my religion
Your way is better
Oh Your way is better
[Chorus]
And I will make room for You
To do whatever You want to
To do whatever You want to
And I will make room for You
To do whatever You want to
To do whatever You want to, oh
[Verse 2]
Here is where I lay it down
You are all I’m chasing now
This is my surrender
This is my surrender
Here is where I lay it down
You are all I’m chasing now
This is my surrender
This is my surrender
